With Maps being such essential business tools, it is easy to forget that they can also provide a strong visual stimulus to help to influence a desired atmosphere in a setting and sometimes just make other things around them look good!
With this in mind we have found that our maps have proved very popular with the Television and Film industry, sometimes as backdrops and sometimes as key elements of storylines.
At the time of this blog going live some of our street mapping is currently being used in the first two episodes of ITV’s crime drama “Scott and Bailey”, wherein the duo investigate the murky world of the dark web. The mapping has been restyled in order to make it seem more otherworldly and what you would expect to see on the “dark web” and the detectives use it to help them follow the trail of gruesome murders.
For season three of Sherlock, we were asked to create a pub crawl map for Dr. Watson’s stag do and two of our standard map products were also used as backdrops.
First of all our Old British Isles map was seen on the wall in the living room at Baker Street in episode one.
Then, in the same episode, our Central London Street map was used to aid Sherlock and Watson in their investigation to track down the bomb that is threatening London.
The pub crawl map was created especially for Sherlock and animation was added to the map base to illustrate Sherlock’s and Watson’s journey across London, as they tried to keep to Sherlock’s planned route for the stag do in episode two.
Our maps certainly seem to be popular with British Police dramas in particular recently. The ITV Police drama “Case Sensitive – The Other Half Lives” used our British Isles Postcode Map and “Line of Duty” featured our Executive World map as a backdrop only last week.
Of course we like to think that our maps will be used for the powers of good but they are not just helpful for crime fighting, they can also help to transform ordinary people’s lives for the better.
Channel Five’s Cowboy Builders have used our Wallpaper World Map on several occasions and very memorably in an episode of the show where they worked their magic for a Bradford family. The Wallpaper World Map was used in one of the children’s bedrooms and on seeing the room and the wallpaper the son of the family was so happy with the result he said it left him speechless.
Our World Political map is one of the best selling World maps on the planet so it is no surprise that it is used so often to add glamour and strong visual impact to small & big screen productions.
Both the “The Truman Show” (World Political map with flags) and “The Fifth Estate’” (Huge World Political) have used the colour and impact of this map to enhance the cinematic appeal of their films.
It’s not just films though! Mastercard have made an advert using our World Map. The air date is scheduled for May 15th 2016 and it’s initially only going to air in the US, however there will be an online version as well.
So it goes to show that maps are equally at home whether travelling as an electromagnetic wave to your tv set or on the silver screen as they are sitting on an office wall!
